
Mr. Empeslidis has been trained in Ophthalmology in Greece and the UK; and has a fellowship in Medical Retina at the Leicester Royal Infirmary. Additionally, he has undertaken further training in uveitis with Professor Murray in Birmingham. Mr. Empeslidis was the leading Consultant Ophthalmologist of the busy ARMD service at the Leicester Royal Infirmary and has been awarded the prestigious Clinical Excellence Award from the Macula Society UK in 2013.
Mr. Empeslidis is extremely active in research and he is currently the Principal Investigator of several randomised controlled trials in retinal disorders. He is also looking after patients with age related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy ARMD, diabetic retinopathy, retinal dystrophies, vein occlusions and uveitis. Mr. Empeslidis is actively publishing in peer reviewed journals and has an extensive publication track record.
He has trained over a dozen fellows over the last few years. He has also organised the Leicester OCT course running once a year. Furthermore, he has been instrumental in organising a local retina group of retina specialists in the east midlands area of England. He is participating in ESASO and retina academy and he is invited speaker to all the major retina congresses. He is on the editorial board of many high impact factor journals.
Mr. Empeslidis recently embarked on a major research project in the pharmaceutical industry to develop new molecules and medicines for the treatment of various retinal diseases and is continually applying all the latest medical evidence and knowledge in his daily clinical practice. Discovering new treatments for patients unmet treatment needs is of paramount importance for future drug development.
